Marko makes a striking statement about Sergio Perez’s future at Red Bull

Helmut Marko has stated his desire for a Red Bull Junior driver to partner with Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing next season. He referred to this scenario as the “ideal situation,” raising further questions about Sergio Perez’s future with the team.

Who Does Marko Want in a Red Bull for F1 2025?

Sergio Perez may have a contract for next year, but that doesn’t guarantee his seat alongside Verstappen in Formula 1. Doubts about the Mexican driver’s future have intensified following Helmut Marko’s striking comments about the team’s aspirations for 2025. When asked if he expects Verstappen to be driving for Red Bull as a world champion in 2025, Marko responded, “And ideally with someone from our junior program,” indicating a preference for promoting talent from within the Red Bull ranks.

Following the Singapore Grand Prix, it was announced that Daniel Ricciardo would not finish the season, with Red Bull Junior Liam Lawson stepping in to replace him starting at the United States Grand Prix. Christian Horner remarked that “in a perfect world,” they would have retained Ricciardo, suggesting that the team is eager to evaluate Lawson’s performance against Yuki Tsunoda at VCARB.

Horner also indicated that Red Bull is open to exploring options beyond their current driver pool, even mentioning George Russell by name. He emphasized the many talented young stars within the Red Bull Junior Team.

Liam Lawson will have the opportunity to showcase his skills alongside Yuki Tsunoda for the remainder of the season, but his future beyond this year remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar, the new reserve driver for Red Bull and VCARB, is closely watched as he competes for the Formula 2 title.
