Marko Optimistic About Red Bull: “Then Championship Chances Are Looking Good” F1 News

Helmut Marko remains optimistic about Red Bull Racing’s prospects in the Constructors’ Championship, thanks to upcoming upgrades for the car at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix in Austin. He anticipates that Max Verstappen will secure more race wins and Sergio Perez will make it to the podium.

Red Bull Racing lost its lead in the Constructors’ Championship during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, where a late crash involving Perez and Carlos Sainz cost the team crucial points. McLaren then extended its lead to 41 points at the Singapore Grand Prix. With only six Grand Prix and three sprint races remaining, Marko remains hopeful that Red Bull can make the necessary improvements.

He believes Verstappen can secure at least two wins if the updates perform as expected. Although the Dutchman hasn’t won since the Spanish Grand Prix in June, he still holds the record for the most victories in 2024. If Verstappen wins, Marko anticipates strong results from Perez as well. “Sergio will then move up a few places. Third and fourth places are possible, which would give us positive championship chances,” Marko told Motorsport-Magazin.

The Situation Surrounding Perez’s Performance at Red Bull

While Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri consistently vie for podium finishes, Perez has often fallen behind his teammates. Marko acknowledges this reality, stating, “That is unfortunately the case. However, I’m not sure if Piastri is happy playing the role of number two, so he might not embrace it.”

Although Perez is contracted with Red Bull until 2026, his future with the team remains uncertain. Daniel Ricciardo was considered a potential replacement, but he has lost his seat at Visa Cash App RB to Liam Lawson, whom Red Bull wants to evaluate against Yuki Tsunoda.

Marko commented on Perez’s performance, saying, “Checo struggles with car changes, unlike Max, who can adapt more easily. However, circuits that suit him are coming up, and we hope he stabilizes.”
