Andrey Arshavin’s son, who is enrolled at Barcelona’s academy, is named after his former manager, Arsène Wenger.

Former Arsenal player Andrey Arshavin has named his son Arseny in honor of the legendary manager Arsène Wenger.

Arshavin, who played under Wenger for nearly 150 games between 2009 and 2013, chose the name as a tribute to the French coach.

This past week, Arseny was named Player of the Week in a competition at Barcelona’s Moscow-based academy.

Each young player at the academy is assigned to a team named after a current or former Barcelona player.

Andrey Arshavin, 38, joined Arsenal after impressing with Russia at Euro 2008, where he went on to score 31 goals in 144 appearances for the Gunners. He is best remembered for his stunning four-goal performance at Anfield in Arsenal’s dramatic 4-4 draw with Liverpool during the 2008/09 season, which dashed their title hopes.
