Carlos Sainz left shocked by Binotto’s admission about Lewis Hamilton

Carlos Sainz was surprised by Mattia Binotto’s recent comment about Lewis Hamilton. The former Ferrari boss, who managed both Charles Leclerc and Sainz during his time with the team, revealed that he would never have signed the seven-time World Champion. As a result, Sainz will be moving on from Ferrari and is set to race for Williams in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Carlos Sainz is approaching the final chapter of his Ferrari career, with just six Grand Prix weekends left before his move to a British team. Reflecting on his time with Ferrari, Sainz said, “These have been four wonderful years as a Ferrari driver. My first wins, pole positions, and podiums [including one from his McLaren days] all came while driving for Maranello. I’ll never forget what it means to be a Ferrari driver. But we still have some time together, so who knows—our paths may cross again,” he shared in a conversation with Marca.

Next season, Ferrari will feature a seven-time world champion alongside a driver with multiple victories. Sainz holds no hard feelings about the change. “Hamilton and Leclerc are both great drivers. I’m sure they’ll enjoy their time together,” he added.

How did Sainz respond to Binotto’s comment?

Mattia Binotto recently stated that he would not have signed Lewis Hamilton if the decision had been his. Sainz was surprised by the remark. “Did Binotto really say that? I’ll leave that without further comment. That’s an opinion I’ll keep to myself, but maybe we can talk about it over dinner sometime,” Sainz responded with a smile.
