Who is Charles Leclerc’s dad Hervé Leclerc?
After winning the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc was overcome with emotion as he listened to his national anthem from the top step of the podium in his hometown. Leclerc revealed that in the final laps, he had tears in his eyes, reflecting on his friends, family, and especially his late father, Hervé Leclerc.
Who Was Hervé Leclerc?
Hervé Leclerc, born on March 7, 1963, was the father of Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, as well as Lorenzo Leclerc, his eldest son, and Arthur Leclerc, a Ferrari development driver and European Le Mans Series competitor for Panis Racing. Hervé was a former professional motorsport driver in the 1980s, participating in 22 races between 1983 and 1988.
His racing career began in 1983 with a single race in the Formula 3 Italy series for Ecole Avia La Chatre. In 1986, Hervé raced against future F1 star Jean Alesi in the Formula 3 France series, competing in ten races for Jacky Carmignon’s team, though he was unable to score any points during the season.
He raced in the same series again in 1987, facing Alesi once more. Hervé participated in ten races that year but, unfortunately, did not score any points again. His professional career concluded at the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 3, where he finished in 8th place, a non-scoring position, while racing for AA Sport.
Hervé passed away at the age of 54 after a long illness, just four days before Charles’ victory in the 2017 Baku Formula 2 feature race. Before his passing, Hervé played a crucial role in guiding both Charles and Arthur through the lower tiers of motorsport, helping them reach the professional ranks. Both brothers continue to honor their father’s legacy and support.
